As some of you may be tracking, the governor of washington Justine Gregoire has authorized the atheist sect in washington to display a poem of hate during Christmas next to the naitivity scene.
The governor states that under the tenants of free speech she must allow all views of religion to be on display in the capitol. However let us remember that the supreme court has never made a conclusive ruling about what constitutes “hate speech”, but we know it when we see it. Here is a copy of the sign:
As any normal person can see, this would be considered “Fighting Words” as per the 1942 Supreme Court Ruling of Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire. However regulation of speech still remains elusive. Now i’m not advocating the court regulation of speech, however just an edict of common sense. If say some extremist white power group were to demand a posting put up talking about how “Black breed ignorance and hate” etc etc etc…ya….shit would hit the fan like a nasty old lactose intolerant man who drank a gallon of milk.
OK so let’s go with the atheist are allowed their right to expression like everyone else. Does the sign have to be up the same time and in the same place as the naitivity? No! Come on…Justine Gregoire, please remove your head from your 4th point of contact!

I totally agree. Free speech shouldn’t be hindered, but its not like Christmas is wrong, you can ignore it if you don’t like it, just like I ignore athiests!
