Why aren’t we really a post racial society?

Sorry everyone, i was on leave for the middle two weeks of february, and then it took me a week to get back to Iraq. So the hiatus is over. I figured i’d start with this first post asking the question: Why aren’t we really a post racial society?
With the election of Obama as president, being the first “African American” president; people like chris matthews were all exclaiming how America is finally a post racial society (that was if he got elected, chris also said if he didn’t get elected, it was because Americans were too racist), are we really a post racial society?
For example, today just for fun i did a google search for “Why are black people so loud?”. A majority of the results on the first page were links to forum posts. Again almost every one of those posts at some point in it “…i’m not trying to be racist, i just wanna know.”
One was a youtube post by a kid asking “how come black people are loud in movie theatres? I’m not trying to be a racist but um, i just wanna know.”
How come everyone thinks is racist to ask a question about an observation? If anything it’s a reason for African Americans to explain, refute or otherwise address things like that. Does anyone say “Hey, i just wanna know, how come white people sunburn so much? i dont want to be a racist but, i just wanna know.”
I’m sure the issue of race is rather complex. However there are some things i feel that help to keep the rift open between the races. For example even having the ” (insert continent here) American”. How about this, unless you were born in Europe, Africa, Asia etc, you are an AMERICAN not a hyphen American.
I also feel that Affirmative Action is an incorrect policy. Having racial quotas for several things only goes to to perpetuate racism. Think about it, it’s the federal government saying that YOU as a non-white person need a handicap in order to be on par with white people when it comes to applying for med school or a job, or whatever. It’s ridiculous!
Until people decide to let go of the things that really keep us apart as one united nation, we aren’t going to truly experience a post racial society. Ignorant white people need to realize that minorities don’t need a handicap and help empower that. Minorities also have the responsibility of not taking those handouts.
I’m not being a racist, i’m just calling it how it is.
