First of all as some of you know, I am stationed in Baghdad with the 1st cav.
It scared the shit out of every single person here when that crazy Muslim
extremist went and shot up all of our fellow soldiers that were trying to
process for mobilization.
No one here knew if they had a friend or family member who was by chance
there and caught one of those rounds. Most of them took it personally.
The first thing that happens is fucking congress starts to politicize
the issue.
Chuck Schumer (Dickhead-NY) started pushing for more gun control
measure because obviously, the gun forced Hasan to drive on base,
go into the SRP site, just so it could make him jump up on a desk
and start firing at anything that moved.
If that's the case, every single soldier and half the civilians
here in Baghdad carry a weapon, shouldn't there be mass killings?
Shouldn't we have wiped ourselves out with these firearms in that logic?
This isn't Steven King's Maximum Overdrive.
So instead of blaming what really caused this issue
(a crazy radical Muslim extremist) we blame guns.
God forbid we actually call a spade a spade.
It's not politically correct to blame radical islam, but its totally
en vogue to blame guns.
Since we are so worried about offending peoples frails sensibilities
no one wanted to put Hasan on a watch list.
He wasn't put on one, so when he went and purchased a firearm, there
was no alarm bell that said:
"Hey, this crazy dude who has been running around saying violence is
OK in the name of Allah just bought a gun, maybe we should alert the
base so the gate guards can search his car."
This was completely avoidable if some of our damn politicians had the
balls to actually track threats, regardless of what they call God.
