Why the 2nd Amendment is important to everyone

Greetings Fellow Americans,

I think i should use my forum to help highlight the necessity for all Americans, not just gun owners, to support the sanctity of the 2nd Amendment.  I know that if anyone who doesnt agree with me is reading this: “But guns kill people!” “Criminals use guns!  We must outlaw them!” “Guns only cause crime!” “Guns provide people ways to kill themselves!”  Lets take apart a these statements.

“But guns kill people!”
First of all, guns don’t kill people.  I carry a gun with me every day and it even has 30 rounds of ammunition on it at all times.  So far, it hasn’t killed anyone.  In fact, right now it is sitting against the wall right next to me not killing anyone.  As a matter of fact, the only time a gun has ever killed anyone without the use of an operator was in Stephen King’s “Maximum Overdrive”.  But that is fiction, therefore it doesnt count.  Simply put, a gun has never killed anyone.  People kill people, with things that don’t even use bullets!

“Criminals use guns!  We must outlaw them!”
When you make another law that disallows people to have guns, you’re just restricting law abiding citizens from attain firearms for whatever purpose they may want them for i.e. hunting, sport, hobbies, or personal protection.  I wont bother to go and post facts about how gun owners that legally own guns commit very few violent crimes with their weapons.

Secondly, a criminal according to merriam-webster is: “One who commits a crime” and a crime is defined as ” an act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law; especially : a gross violation of law”.  So by definition a criminal is someone who disobeys the law.  Obviously a criminal who is going to commit a crime, isnt going to care about breaking a gun law if they are going to knock off a bank, rob someone, kidnap a person, or kill someone.  Think about it.

“Guns only cause crime!”
As previously stated, most gun owners don’t commit a crime involving their firearms.  If you dont believe me, i dare you to find a non-bias study that shows where gun owners are inherently more dangerous than non-gunowners.  If you do, i’ll post it.

“Guns provide people with a way to kill themselves”
I can’t even fathom all the intracacies that add up to someone committing suicide.  Some people do it as a cry for help, and some do it to really kill themselves.  Most people use it as a cry for help and use less lethal means such as pills, poison, and cutting.  True people can kill themselves with a gun, but they can kill themselves by jumping off a bridge.  Does that mean we should ban bridges?

Now to the core matter, why its important to everyone.

Liberals and progressives target the 2nd amendment because it is arguably the hardest nut to crack in the bill of rights.  If they ever get to destroy this essential right, every other right we have as Americans that make America great are easy targets.  Just imagine the end to protection against unreasonable search and seizure, having the right to not self incriminate, a speedy trial and so on.  It becomes a slippery slope.  THis is why it is important to everyone to protect this amendment.

Glenn Beck love him or hate him, at least he uses facts

It is no secret that i am obviously mostly a conservative.  Glenn Beck recently released another book Arguing With Idiots.  Now i generally like Glenn with his mostly non-partisan cricism.  I purchased his last book as well and rather enjoyed it.  First of all, i recommend it.  Here is where you can get it

or on Itunes

Political punditry is at an all time high.  The division between left and right in recent years especially during the Bush administration has created a market.  I think those 8 years were bar non the most divisive in American history.

The major difference i have noticed between most conservative pundits and liberal pundits is the use of facts.  Granted there are conservatives who just spout off crap (Michelle Malkin seems to lack them mostly) but the left is disproportionatly better at espousing opinions that are backed up by nothing but their disdain for anything conservative.

Glenn Beck, Anne Coulter and Bill O’Reilly seem to keep their opinions grounded in logic and in the factual realm.  Keith Olberman and Rachel “Madcow” Maddow seem to just mock conservatives and spread hate.  I share some more liberal view points especially on social issues, but i can not stand to watch either of them.

Personally i believe that all pundits contribute to politics.  However they also contribute to the devisiveness of America.  Rarely do i hear Glenn Beck or Mr. O’Reilly personally slander anyone, let alone any of their pundit-opponents.  However you cannot listen to one hour of Madcow or Olberman without them denouncing Beck and O’Reilly as hate mongerers and rascists.

Like a bumpersticker i once saw said: “Confuse a liberal, use facts!”
