Ladies and Gentlemen,
As most of you should know, the Obama administration has announced their nominee for the upcomming supreme court vacancy. We now know her as Sonia Sotomayor…
Heres the scoop: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/05/31/republicans-voice-racial-aspects-sotomayors-nomination/
The main reason i have an issue here with this article in particular is that it highlights one key fact: White Men can not make a comment about non-white people being racist. I guess the reason is that it makes us hippocrites since we traditionally have been the racist people. But how long has white america been appologizing for the mistakes of our fathers, grandfathers, greatgrandfathers etc. However now is the time that we are getting the backlash.
All the issues of reverse racism…what have they lead to? Just that, reverse racism. A vast majority of claims against universities and employers have sided that it is still acceptable to discriminate based on race against white people. Take for example the firefighters in Mount Vernon, who (both hispanics and white) were denied promotion despite passing their exams simply because no black firefighters even took the exam (http://www.lohud.com/article/2009905120368).
So now we have Sotomayor, this awesome nominee with a track record of thinking she can make better decisions than a white man soley because she is a “Latina Woman”. Great, yet another “Let’s punish white man” person in a position of power.
The main issue is that republican senators don’t know how to approach the confirmation process without being lambasted as “racists”. So you can’t call out a person who makes racist remarks, if they happen to be a minority? I’d say thats hipocrisy if i’d ever seen it!
Last just think about this nominee in conjuction with the Obama administration asking the justice department to help “shore up” the gap between black men in prison for selling crack cocaine, and white people. Evidently the administration doesnt approve of the fact that 89% of the people in prison for selling crack cocaine are black. How about this: MAYBE ITS BECAUSE 89% OF THE PEOPLE WHO SELL CRACK COCAINE ARE BLACK!!! maybe thats a fact…maybe its not. who knows?
